About Fiberglass Parchment

Fiberglass parchment is a highly regarded material for lampshade making, particularly for mid-century modern and industrial styles, due to its unique combination of durability, heat resistance, and superior light diffusion properties. Fiberglass allows light to filter through, producing a warm, soft diffusion that reduces glare, making it ideal for ambient lighting.

• Fiberglass can be left white, painted, dyed, textured, stencilled, screen printed, decorated with studs, possibilities are endless! 

Fiberglass is ideal for replacing missing or damaged fiberglass shades from 1950s-1960s “rocket” or atomic style lamps. Also used for making drum, cone, or tiered lampshades, as well as wall and hanging lights. And is also perfect for Japanese Shoji Screens.

• Because fiberglass parchment is a mineral-based material, it is naturally incombustible, fire-retardant, and safe to use near light bulbs that become hot, such as halogen or incandescent bulbs. Unlike paper or fabric, fiberglass does not warp, shrink, or become brittle over time when exposed to heat.

It is highly durable and resistant to corrosion or rot, meaning these shades can last for decades. It is lightweight yet sturdy, allowing for delicate-looking designs that are quite robust.
